CENTRE---The Cherokee County Chapter American Red Cross will hold its annual meeting Thursday, June 5, 2008, in the Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church in Centre (373 East Main Street). The gathering will begin with a light catered lunch at 12 noon ---followed by a general membership meeting and election of directors for the chapter.

Directors are elected for a term of three years and provide governance for the local chapter's operations under the chartered requirements of the American Red Cross.

The chapter manger will also review projects and accomplishments of the local chapter during the past year. In addition, several awards will be presented to outstanding volunteers.

Centre, Alabama, May 1, 2008.

In the spirit of "National Volunteer Week" the Cherokee Chapter of the American Red Cross honored the Chapter volunteers that serve the citizens of Cherokee County. Retired Chapter Manager Betsy Hollis Maple was honored for her dedication and service to the Red Cross. Twenty-six volunteers attended the luncheon at "Simply Southern" Restaurant in Centre. New Chapter Manager Roger Griffeth presented Mrs. Maple with a special gift box with articles intended to remind Betsy of her time and service with the Red Cross.

Red Cross Chapters Gear Up for National CPR and AED Awareness Week.

In December 2007, Congress passed a bill designating the first week of June as "National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week." To showcase our commitment to this effort and to highlight June 1-7 as the inaugural CPR and AED Awareness Week, the American Red Cross goal is to reach 250,000 people during that week with CPR and AED information — directly and through collaborations with local Chapters.  Click Here to view the dates scheduled for First Aid, CPR and AED in Cherokee County.
